FAQ

What to expect?

Expect lifelong memories, amazing views and a thrill of a lifetime. You will receive expert instruction from your FAA Certified Instructor. After our brief instruction it's up we go to fly above the Lake out of South Lake Tahoe's airport. If conditions allow, we'll fly low and possibly land on the water!

What should I wear and what is provided?

Suits are provided as well as heated footwear and gloves so your experience of having the wind in your hair and the lake at your feet as you fly like a bird is a memorable one. Let your adrenaline build as you remain warm and toasty in our flight suits. If you opt to use your own shoes, please no open toe or flip flops. Your own proper seasonal apparel for jackets and pants coupled with our flight suits will be perfect.

Video and Photography

We've securely mounted the latest GoPros to our aircraft for your adventure and we make it available for you to share your adventure with friends and family. Our GoPros have high quality image stabilization and audio capability.

If you have your own GoPro, we offer an option to use your own--call and ask for options. We do require that you have the housing case that we can mount to our equipment.

What type of aircraft do we fly in?

This is an Amphibious Light Sport Weight Shift Control Aircraft manufactured in Florida by Airtime Aircraft.

The Airtime Aircraft Cygnet is FAA tested to strict industry standards. It can land on the water with aluminum pontoons or on land with three wheeled retractable landing gear.  Our aircraft are maintained and inspected by FAA certified mechanics.  We have a 100% safety record.

When and in what weather conditions can you fly?

The best flights in these aircraft are in early morning and late morning conditions. Since we can safely fly over the water we avoid much of the thermals and "bumps" that occur during later morning times. Mornings in Lake Tahoe offer the best flying conditions in the world. Nearly every morning is flyable and winds calm.

Don't be alarmed if there is rain or thunderstorms in the forecast as these often occur later in the afternoons when we are already wrapped up with our flying.

Are there any Age or Weight Limits?

Children must be old enough to take directions and weigh at least 75 pounds.  If you are over 200 pounds please let us know that, as we can accommodate up to 250 pounds.

Can two people fly at the same time?

The aircraft is designed to hold two people, the Instructor and one student. At this time we are only operating one aircraft with one Pilot.

How fast does it fly and how high can we fly?

How fast we can fly is determined by the wing size. The Cygnet aircraft has either a 19 or 20 meter wing which makes it one of the larger trike wing sizes. These wings can fly around 50mph and make it possible to carry heavier loads and pontoons.

We are limited by law to 10,000 feet or 2,500 over ground level with a Sport Pilot License. If you hold a Private Pilot License you are then limited to 18,000 feet.  We have found that the best flying in Tahoe is from 300 ft above the ground to 1,500 feet.
